The hamza is not considered by many to be a "letter" on
its own; thus, it is generally taught as a component of the alif.
However, I prefer to treat it as a separate letter, and the fact that it
takes various "seats" depending on the vowels governing it and the letter
before it can be construed as an abnormality. |
